Aquamarine

We have gotten mostly single crystals from the Padre Paraiso mine in Brazil which are usually extremely gemmy. Also, large crystals can form in matrix with mica and white clevelandite and come from the Itatiaia Mine which lies just east of Governador Valadares in the state of Minas Gerais.

Aquamarine is a blue to blue green gem mineral in the beryl family. Emerald, Morganite, and Heliodor are also varieties of beryl, and all have many of the same characteristics including hardness of 7.5 – 8 on the Mohs hardness scale.
